Dear Editor:

I live on Southport where the winters have been rough on the roads this year — even on our little street. Earlier this week (Feb. 28), I placed a call to my town office to alert them to a rut in the road that was truly risky.

In many large towns that would be filed away in some “system” and addressed in the fall.  Not Southport. The town secretary and I had a pleasant conversation, and she texted the town road crew as we spoke.

By the time I came home that night my road was repaired.

I think we forget, for time to time, just how wonderful it is to live in a small community where personal communication and accountability means so much.
