Southport’s ice rink is filled

With a spell of consistently cold temperatures in the forecast this week, the new ice rink on the Southport Central School field has been lined and filled with water.

Ice Manager Charlie Britton was ably assisted in the endeavor by Matt Thibault, Alden Colby, John Smith, Bucky Holloway, Adam Harkins and Brad Weller.

“Now we await the freezing of the ice to a point where it is ready for use,” said Principal Lisa Clarke. “Hopefully it won’t be too long.”

In the meantime, there are “Rink Closed” signs around the perimeter of the rink, and all skating enthusiasts are asked to watch for the “Rink Open” signs to be posted before taking to the ice. Skaters are also reminded that during school hours the rink will be closed to all but Southport Central School’s students and staff.
