Southport Yacht Club Arts and Crafts Show

Tue, 08/08/2017 - 9:45am

The annual Arts and Crafts Show is being held at the Southport Yacht Club today, Tuesday, Aug. 8 and tomorrow, Wednesday, Aug. 9 in two buildings. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

June Elderkin is the featured artist in the art display building. This is the second year the Boothbay Harbor native, but longtime resident of Southport, has been selected as such.

Her art is unique in that she finds something special in all aspects of Maine life. Some of June’s studies show off the simplicity of houses, barns, working folk, and memories of places we will never forget. Her colors reflect the natural beauty of her surroundings and whether it be water, shoreline, rocks or ledges which Mother Nature has decorated with mosses and lichens. This collection of art affords viewers an opportunity to reflect on scenes often missed in our busy lives.

Another artist returning this year is Normand Chartier with several prints and a painting. Sixteen artists’ will have work in the art building. There will be note cards and prints as well as paintings and photography.

The craft area will be filled with hand knits, jewelry, wood craft, stitchery, chocolates, pottery, and other unique items by well-known and new crafters.

Spend some time perusing the quilts and alpaca knits, as well as the fine handpainted furniture at the annual Arts and Crafts Show and Sale.

The club is located on Cosy Harbor Road off Rte. 27 on the west side of the island. Signs will point the way.
