Southport Yacht Club

August at the Southport Yacht Club is usually very busy with fun events every weekend.

Last Saturday the past commodores and their spouses put on their clambake where the lobsters and clams are prepared in the traditional Maine way, in the heated seaweed under a wet tarp. Over 100 members and guests gathered to enjoy the feast. The rain held off just long enough so that we could be outside without getting wet. Many thanks to the providers and their fearless leader Jack Bauman who continue to put on this elegant repast.

The Junior Yacht Club will host the second ice cream social on Thursday so skip dessert and come down around 7.

This coming weekend the club will host the annual Arts and Crafts show and sale. I believe this is the 50th year we have invited local crafters and artists to display. It is not too late to participate and you can call me at 633-2117. A percentage of the proceeds goes to the Junior Yacht Club Sailing Foundation to provide scholarships and keep our instructors in well maintained boats.

Doors will open at 10 a.m. each day and we close at 4 p.m. We look forward to seeing you.
