The Southport Yacht Club was abuzz with activity last weekend as we hosted the annual Arts and Crafts show and sale. We were able to accommodate 40 talented artists and crafters. After a bit of rain early on Saturday the sun came out and we were gifted with a beautiful day which carried over to Sunday. Many thanks to all who participated and those who contributed time to make the show run smoothly. Special thanks to those who helped with set up and breakdown which were done efficiently and quickly.

This is the last week of sailing classes, which will be topped off by the annual awards banquet. Parents, grandparents can attend and hear about all the successes and fun activities that took place over the summer.

The Mark Island Race was held on Saturday in ideal conditions. Brisk southerlies on the first leg and the same from the north on the last leg. Anne Rand was first followed by the Nelson family second and Chris Jacobs third.

On Saturday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. it’s the annual beer tasting and chowder cook off. If you have a special chowder recipe  ... dig it out and come on over!

 The annual meeting will be held at 10 a.m. the following weekend followed by the commodore's closing reception at 5:30 p.m.
