The Boothbay Region Special Olympics team traveled to the University of Maine at Orono for the Central Maine Basketball Tourney on March 8.

Boothbay had students entered in both the skills competition and the team competition. John “Piper” Rankin and Coyle Lawler both won a gold medals for their polished skills, Kelsey Hoyle won a silver, Anthony Angelico won a bronze, Blake Chadwick won a 5th place and Vincent Giles took a 7th place.

Team members were Danny Miller, Valerie Giles, Grace Giles, Matt Farnham, Donny Dunning, Thomas Wilcox, Joey Ranco, Ronda LeConte, Amber Hyson and Isaac Pray. Boothbay first played against The Frank Beckett Center and lost 30-4 with Joey Ranco and Issac Pray scoring. The opponent had a very tall team which made it very difficult for Boothbay to figure out how to move around them.

In game two against Momentum North, we were more evenly matched and won 14-6. The playmakers were Thomas Wilcox, Ronda LeConte and Joey Ranco. Once they found their rhythm they were able to move the ball smoothly to Isaac Pray, Amber Hyson and Matthew Farnham. Scoring for Boothbay: Wilcox, 6 points, and 2 points each for Amber Hyson, Ronda LeConte, Isaac Pray and Joey Ranco.

In the finals, Boothbay lost 12-8 in a close game with Living Innovations. Scoring for Boothbay was Joey Ranco with 6 points and Thomas Wilcox tipping in 2.
