Tell your ‘Maine Story’ through art

River Arts in Damariscotta, is inviting artists to submit work for an exhibition with the theme of “The Maine Story.” Artists in any media are encouraged to submit up to three works for jurying. All work is due by 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 26. The opening reception is scheduled for Friday, August 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition will hang until August 28.

All media, styles and subjects are welcome. All work entered must be for sale. Wall-hung work  size maximum: 60 inches in height, 42 inches in width. For safety reasons plexiglass or other non-glass option should be used for work over 34 inches, excluding pastels.

Susan Groche will be the juror for the exhibition. Groce, professor of art, department chair at the University of Maine, Orono, received her master’s degree in fine arts from the University of Michigan. She has worked at Atelier 17, Paris; the Edinburgh Printmakers, Scotland; Open Bite Print Workshop, Australia; and the MacDowell Colony, N.H. She has been an Artist Mentor for the MFA program at Vermont College, and has been an Artist in Residence, Visiting Artist, Guest Lecturer, and Visiting Researcher (safer print practices) at over 40 art schools, programs, and universities in the U.S. and abroad.

Her prints and drawings have been in over 180 solo, invitational, and juried exhibitions and are included in private, public, and corporate collections in the U.S., Portugal, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Singapore. Her research focus is on innovative and safer print materials and processes. Susan has worked with Friedhard Kiekeben in the development of the Orono Ground, and has received a variety of research grants and awards in the arts, including the University of Maine System Trustee Professorship.

River Arts is located at 241 Route 1 in Damariscotta. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
