letter to the editor

Thankful for positive messages

    Dear Editor:

I would like to thank Joe Gelarden for his excellent and thoughtful column in the Nov. 30 Register. Similarly, I want to echo Laura Honey’s letter in the same issue. It saddens me that our community is, as she said, “filled with dislike, hate and discontent.” Linc Sample made a number of relevant points about the dissent in the community as well.

I am particularly distressed with all the coverage given the past few weeks to Kevin and Jason Anthony as if they speak for the whole community. They represent only themselves and a few friends. The same kind of thinking was expressed by Scott Garrison in his letter about the roundabout. These people are not thoughtful and open-minded people trying to examine change in the community. They want things to be the way they “always have been, and should be.” This attitude is self-serving and not at all in keeping with thoughtful dialogue.

I spent my professional life helping companies, community organizations and non-profit organizations deal with change of all sorts. Change never is easy and needs to be undertaken cautiously with input from all affected parties. That is what Mr. Coulombe and CMBG have done, but those who oppose them continue to challenge the proposed changes in any way that they can — to the detriment of thoughtful dialogue. It saddens me to see such diatribe published every week in the Register and that’s why I am grateful for the letters you published last week from Laura Honey, Linc Sample, George Friant, Chuck Fuller and Michael Maxim.
