Gold/Smith Gallery in Boothbay Harbor is proud to present the premiere exhibit of wood constructions by Boothbay Harbor artist, and physician, Andre Benoit. The show, which opened on July 1, will run through the month. The gallery will host an open house on July 4, First Friday, from 3 to 5 p.m. to celebrate the new exhibit. A reception for the artist will be held on July 12 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Benoit has been contemplating going three-dimensional with his plein air paintings for many years. He began his series of these constructions about a year ago and has never looked back. They are a culmination of a life of painting on flat surfaces and trying to achieve this depth of field and color. The constructions were a natural step in his search for a more profound result.

He has a fine sense of humor and form and the results are a marvelous mix of the coastal Maine experience, painting with emotion and color.

Meet the artist at the July 12 reception and hear stories about Benoit's experiences while collecting the components used to create these pieces. Learn about the inspirations that lead up to their creation as well.
