Three things

Congratulations to all of the winners and entrants in the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens’ Christmas lighting contest, and kudos to those who have participated in the Boothbay Festival of Lights. We don’t know the numbers, but it does seem that a lot of visitors have made their way down Route 27 in the past month. Heading out for shopping, swim meets, doctor’s appointments and more, there has been a steady stream of cars either heading in or going out. Nice to see.

Saw a funny photo on Facebook the other day: It was a picture of Fenway Park with the Green Monster three times as high as it is now. This was after the trade for Giancarlo Stanton by the New York Yankees. For those of you who don’t know, Stanton is the reigning MVP from the National League who hit 59 home runs this past year. Teaming him up with the Yankees’ Aaron Judge, who hit 52 in 2017, New York now has a new “Murderers’ Row.” I’m hoping the Red Sox can find a player who can hit some home runs this next season, as we missed David Ortiz’s home run power last season.

Good luck to the Seahawks’ winter sports teams. Basketball and cheerleading started this past week and swimming and Nordic skiing will begin later this week. We have the schedules online and will try to remember to print the upcoming contests each Thursday. Let’s hope Seahawk Nation gets out and supports these teenagers during the long winter season.
