A traffic stop led to a high-speed chase in Boothbay Harbor Feb. 4.

At about 12:02 a.m., Boothbay Harbor Police Officer Tom Chryplewicz attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic infraction near the intersection of Oak and McKown streets.

According to a police statement, the driver failed to stop and instead sped away at high speed; Chryplewicz pursued the vehicle but then lost contact. Deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office assisted, but were unable to locate the car and driver.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., the vehicle was found abandoned on Reed Road. The car had left the roadway and struck trees and a large rock causing extensive damage.

Officers were able to locate the alleged operator, Ann Wilcox, 23, of Boothbay Harbor. Wilcox, who had no injuries, was subsequently charged by Officers Larry Brown and Nick Upham with eluding an officer and failure to give notice of an accident by the quickest means.
