June 21 at 6 p.m. will be the next potluck and Judy has promised that it might be a night that will go down in Barters Island history. Besides all the delicious food that will be offered, some of the Barters Island men will be performing for the evening’s entertainment. Come prepared to cheer or jeer. Judy would like folks to bring an appetizer, main or side dish or a dessert to share. Bring your beverage of choice or enjoy the coffee or tea provided. And most important, Judy needs to know if you are coming due to special accommodations that need to be made for the performance. Bill, Robin, Robert, Paul and Louise did a bang up job with the Mexican potluck last month. Lots of decorations gave the hall a fiesta atmosphere. Several attendees were in sombreros and other theme attire and there were lots of Mexican food offerings. The immigration authorities (Keith and Kathleen) made a surprise visit but everybody’s paperwork was in order except for Bill’s. He was sentenced to whacking the piñata.

Another of our much loved island residents has left us. Ronnie Spofford, who lived most of his life on Barters Island, recently passed away. Ronnie was a great supporter of the Barters Island Community Association and served as a member of its board for many, many years. He was a valued member of our community.

There is not much time left before the BICA garage and plant sale that will take place on Saturday, July 1 starting at 8 a.m. Louise needs your donations so give her a call at 350-4032. She would love to hear from you. Just remember that we are not able to take clothing or oversized items. And if you have time to help organize goodies for the sale or to help on the day of the sale, please let her know that as well. Evelyn is looking for plants and other garden items.
