A truck smashed into a utility pole snapping it in two pieces Wednesday, delaying traffic along Route 27 near the Boothbay Common for nearly two hours. Boothbay firefighters received an emergency call around 3:45 p.m. and arrived at the scene shortly afterwards, according to Chief Dick Spofford.

Firefighters provided traffic control and kept motorists away from the pole until around 6:15 p.m. Central Maine Power arrived at 5:15 p.m. to assess the damage.

“We couldn’t move the truck. The wires were hanging down and we didn’t want anyone to get shocked, ” said Spofford. “About three and a half hours later, CMP brought in some bigger trucks and started working on the wires.”

The accident is being investigated by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department. Deputy Sheriff Kevin Dennison was the attending officer. According to Lt. Brendan Kane, the accident report hasn’t been completed and more details won’t be available until Tuesday, Sept. 12.
