Two Salty Dogs going for second year as 'Best Maine Pet Store'

Fri, 04/18/2014 - 5:30pm

Two Salty Dogs, located at the corner of Boothbay House Hill and McKown Street in Boothbay Harbor, won “Best Maine Pet Store” in Downeast Dogs News' reader poll in 2013. They are hoping to take the award again in 2014, and to do so, they need the help of customers.

“The only votes accepted have to be written on the original ballots in the April issue of Downeast Dog News,” owner Don Kingsbury said. Ballots are currently available at Two Salty Dogs and Capers (12 Oak Street in Boothbay Harbor). According to Kingsbury, competition is fierce this year, and finding ballots has proven to be a major challenge.

“All the copies of Downeast Dog News are gone, everywhere,” he said. “And you can't photocopy the ballots or print them off from the online copy of Downeast Dog News — you need originals.”

Other categories in the contest include best Maine veterinarian, best Maine groomer, best Maine trainer, best Maine-made product, best Maine boarding center or daycare, best Maine rescue or shelter, and best pet-friendly lodging.

Entries have to be received by April 30, and winners will be announced in the June issue of Downeast Dog News.
