Veterans to lead Boothbay Seahawks

In a juxtaposition to the boys team, the 2018 Boothbay Region High School girls tennis team consists of several veterans who will look to lead the Seahawks into the playoffs again.

Coach Alex Arsenault, returning for his 10th season, has six seniors on his nine-player squad, with two of those seniors returning for their fourth season, and two returning for their third season.

The team’s three tri-captains, seniors Annie Bryer, Eve Dolloff and Madison Gaudette, will be vying to fill the three singles positions. Dolloff and Gaudette return for their fourth season and Bryer for her third. Other players who will either play singles or doubles include senior Sam Clarkson (second season), senior Kayla Lewis (third season), senior Sierra Murray (first season), sophomores Delly Clarkson (second season) and Maddie Faulkingham, and freshman Isabel Harkins, with the latter two players competing in their first season.

Although the lineup isn’t set yet, Arsenault said he is glad to see six players return from last year’s team. Boothbay finished 2017 in seventh place with a 4-7 record, losing to second-seeded Winthrop in the quarterfinal round in the Class C South playoffs.

This preseason, Boothbay has defeated Medomak and lost to Lincoln Academy in exhibition matches. Arsenault sees Spruce Mountain and Hall-Dale as this season’s toughest opponents.

The Seahawks open the season at home on Tuesday, April 24 against Lisbon at 4 p.m.
