Warren resigns from Boothbay Harbor Board of Selectmen

At a Jan. 26 Boothbay Harbor selectman's meeting, Town Manager Tom Woodin announced that he had received the resignation of longtime selectman Jay D. Warren.

Warren, who was reelected in May 2014, said in his resignation that it was "time to move on."

"I've served this town for 40 years — as a firefighter, EMT and selectman," Warren said. "It's time for me to move on to bigger and better things."

Warren, who serves as vice chairman, thanked all who had voted for him last May.

Selectman Bill Hamblen thanked Warren for his service.

"You bring a valuable perspective to this board and I will miss you tremendously," Hamblen said.

"I think that goes for all of us," Selectman Wendy Wolf said.

Hamblen made a motion to accept the resignation of Warren, which selectman Russ Hoffman said he "reluctantly  seconded."

With the resignation accepted, Warren donned his hat and coat and left the meeting after shaking hands with his former colleagues.

The selectmen decided that since papers will be out in three weeks for those planning on running for selectman in May, there would be no point in running a special election to fill Warren's now vacated seat.

At the May election, whoever takes Warren's seat will be finishing out his three-year term that was to end in May 2017.

Hamblen suggested they wait until the next meeting to elect a new vice chairman, to give them all time to consider the candidates. The board agreed.
