Watch for the tulips in the spring

Tue, 12/13/2016 - 4:00pm

It wasn't very long ago that our temperatures here on the peninsula were still warm enough to make a deposit of bulbs in the ground for a return of beautiful flowers in the spring. The Interact Club, the high school version of Rotary, sought assistance from the Boothbay Region Garden Club to plant tulip bulbs in the Boothbay Region High School garden and several members of BRGC came together with the students to carry off the beautification project before freezing temps set in.

Rotarian Sue Duckworth brought the project to BRGC and Debbie Graves, Rotarian and Garden Club member, rallied some energetic volunteers to help the kids with the planting. Representing the Garden Club were Irene Gerny, Jim and Becky Singer and Debbie Graves, who also represented the Rotary group along with Ingrid Merrill.

The BRGC often partners with other organizations whose goals coincide with those of the Garden Club in benefiting the community. The BRGC is affiliated with the NGC (National Garden Clubs Inc.) and is a member of the GCFM (Garden Club Federation of Maine).  For more information about the work of the BRGC check out http://www.boothbayregiongardenclub.org/.
