Wiscasset’s July 4 plans

Wiscasset’s annual Fourth of July Parade will feature the theme “Come Together” and start at 10 a.m. sharp. Floats and groups are welcome to join in the fun! Prizes will be awarded to floats in several categories. Applications can be picked up at the town office or Wiscasset Community Center. They should be turned in to the town office no later than Friday, June 29 at 12 p.m.

All floats must be registered by filling out an application. Check -in and pre-judging of floats will be begin at the town office at 9 a.m.  July 4, line-up will take place along Churchill Street, facing north. The parade route will be Hooper Street to Federal Street, to Route 1, to Middle Street then to the waterfront. Please note there will be a delay in traffic along Route 1 during this time, and Water Street will be closed to traffic during the parade. Ceremonies and awards will take place directly after the parade at the recreation waterfront.

Other events going on at the waterfront until 1:30 p.m. include a dunk tank sponsored by the EMS department. Stop by and dunk your favorite town staff member! The Parks and Recreation Department will have artistic face painting and glitter tattoos and be selling its “Love Wiscasset” T-shirts. Wiscasset Youth Cheering will have lemonade and water for sale and the Wiscasset Yacht Club will also be selling its strawberry shortcake through 5 p.m. Fireworks will take place at approximately 9:15 p.m.

The recreation waterfront will be closed off to recreational boaters July 4. Please access the public boat launch on Old Ferry Road.
