Woman shot in Bath dies from gunshot wound

A 22-year-old woman who was shot in the head Monday, Nov. 16 in Bath has died, authorities said Thursday, Nov. 19.

Chelsea Jones, 22, of Thomaston died Thursday after having spent Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the Maine Medical Center in Portland. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 20.

In releases from Maine State Police Spokesman Stephen McCausland and Bath Police Lt. Robert Savary it was stated that the shooting was accidental. According to reports Jones and her fiance, Dylan Grubbs, traveled to the Shaw's supermarket parking lot to sell a handgun to a prearranged buyer.

During the transaction it's alleged that the gun went off and a bullet struck Jones as she sat in the front seat of an SUV at approximately 3:45 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16

Grubbs, 23, was reportedly cooperative with police as they began their investigation. The potential buyer was also interviewed and the gun was sent to the State Police Crime Lab.
