Dana Dow of Waldoboro has announced his intention to run for Maine State Senate District 13 which includes communities in Lincoln, Knox and Kennebec counties.

Dow recently submitted more than the 100 signatures necessary to appear on the November, 2016 ballot to the Secretary of State’s Office.

Dow previously served in the Maine Legislature, for two terms in the Senate and one in the House of Representatives. He was a member of the Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development Committee.

“Maine’s economy has finally turned the corner, thanks to reforms by Republican leaders in Augusta,” Dow said. “But much more needs to be done in order to attract businesses to Maine and to build on what we have. It won’t be easy, but with my experience in the private and public sector, I know I can be part of the solution at the State House.”

Dow is a former schoolteacher who says education funding needs to be a top priority. “The state of Maine has never followed though on its obligation to fund 55 percent of the cost of local education and fully fund special education costs. Our local communities are paying the price for it with their property taxes. Reversing this trend will be one of my top priorities in Augusta,” Dow said.

He is the president and co-owner of Dow Furniture Company in Waldoboro. Dow and his wife, Lisa, are the parents of four children and grandparents of two.
