Sixteen hundred people went through the gates on the first day of the 50th annual Fall Foliage Festival on Saturday, Oct. 7, according to Margaret Hoffman, executive director of the Boothbay Railway Village. During the first hour on the second day of the three-day festival, the people showed up in spurts — kind of like the 20 mph wind gusts which toppled signs and displays in the vendors’ tents. People of all ages enjoyed the dozens of craft tents and food offerings, and there were several breeds of dogs in tow with some attendees.

Then, at precisely 11 a.m., the rain came pouring down and the wind gusts became stronger. One tent actually blew out of its anchors, but was saved by the vendor and a bystander from blowing across the Village green.

The rain stopped around 12:30 but the wind continued through closing time at 4 p.m. We managed to get a few photos of Sunday’s event. The event was scheduled to continue on Monday, beginning at 10 a.m. but the weather forecast is calling for rain all day.
