2018 Damariscotta Pumpkinfest T-shirt design winner chosen

Mon, 06/25/2018 - 6:00pm

Marybeth Canedy of Jefferson submitted the winning T-shirt design for this year’s Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & RegattaTM.

Originally from Massachusetts, Canedy is an enthusiastic artist who paints on all surfaces and items, utilizing watercolors and acrylics. She enjoys all crafts involving anything to do with nature. During the 2017 Pumpkinfest, she painted a giant pumpkin that was displayed in Newcastle. The winning artist also enjoys painting village scenes from around Maine.

The design was selected from among 17 entries that were submitted by 14 artists. The judges were Pumpkinfest volunteer committee members and other volunteers attending the June 21 monthly Pumpkinfest planning meeting at Skidompha Library. The contest prize to the winning artist is $500.

Canedy’s colorful design with a bright central pumpkin beautifully captures the sights and spirit of the Pumpkinfest festival held every year during Columbus Day weekend, this year from October 5-8. A scene of buildings in Damariscotta and Newcastle viewed against the Damariscotta River dotted with sailboats are visible behind the giant pumpkin in Canedy’s winning design.

The colors chosen for this year’s Pumpkinfest T-shirts are black, deep purple, and heather purple. The T-shirts, hoodies, and other Pumpkinfest gear will go into production very soon and will be available for sale, initially at Supplies Unlimited and Hannaford's. T-shirts and hoodies also can be pre-ordered by emailing merchandise@damariscottapumpkinfest.com indicating size(s) and color(s) desired.

Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to promote education to citizens of all ages regarding the specific agricultural science required to grow giant pumpkins and to provide local non-profit organizations with opportunities for dissemination of information on their activities and fundraising.
