Ah, September!

    Don't we just love September?!

The temperatures (hopefully) drop to a level where you can enjoy the outdoors more and there's still some time to enjoy some mid-summer activities without wilting.

The ninth month is gearing up to be pretty busy around here, with the seventh annual Harbor Fest and all of its many activities extending from the last day of the eighth month to Sept. 9. Schools are open and the high school sports teams will be showing their skills on the fields, pitches and courses. Then comes the 28th annual Boothbay Charities Classic the third weekend of the month, along with the "new" Boothbay Food and Music Festival that same weekend. The Boothbay Railway Museum, which is hosting most of the Food and Music Festival events, will also host the Family Harvest Days the last weekend of the month.

And those are just the larger events. Be sure to keep up with the schedules of these events and more in our newspaper and on our website.

If we get a good autumn weather-wise, we can expect visitors through the rest of the year, with hundreds expected to come in late November and into December to view Gardens Aglow and Boothbay Lights.

Late-in-the-year tourism is still something we’re getting used to but if it means the local economy thrives, we’re all for it.
