Annual district meeting of GCFM May 6 in Bath

The Medomak District of the Garden Club Federation of Maine will hold its annual meeting on Monday, May 6 at Maine Maritime Museum in Bath. The District consists of The Bath Garden Club, which is hosting this event, Boothbay Region Garden Club, Camden Garden Club, Topsham Garden Club and the Garden Club of Wiscasset.

The cost is $30 for GCFM club members and $35 for guests, non-federated club members and late registrations. Interested public send your check payable to Medomak District GCFM to Jacqueline Berry, Bath Garden Club, P.O. 353, Bath, Maine 04530 no later than April 15.

9:30 a.m. Registration; Coffee, tea and pastries

10 a.m. Business meeting

11:30 a.m. Cash bar, socializing, visiting exhibits, raffle, and vintage items

Noon luncheon: From Sarah’s Cafe: Two soups, haddock chowder and spring vegetable with beans (vegan), Sarah’s various wraps (some vegan), and Sarah’s delicious blueberry sheet cake. Iced tea, lemonade, and cash wine bar ($4).

1 p.m. Speaker: Kerry Ann Mendez, garden designer, consultant, writer, lecturer.

Program: Inspired Garden Design Lessons from Magnificent Gardens

Stunning gardens will be our classroom for emphasizing striking design essentials that elevate gardens from ordinary to sublime, regardless of the hardiness zone or sunlight conditions. We will consider texture, movement, color, repetition, garden accessories, focal points, vertical elements and more.

Presenter: As an award-winning garden designer, author and lecturer, Mendez focuses on time-saving gardening techniques, workhorse plants and sustainable practices. She has been on HGTV and in numerous magazines including Horticulture, Fine Gardening, Garden Gate and Better Homes & Gardens. Mendez was awarded the 2014 Gold Medal from the Massachusetts Horticultural Society for her horticultural accomplishments. She has published four popular gardening books. Her most recent, “The Budget-Wise Gardener,” is an essential guide to creating the garden of your dreams without breaking the bank.
