Bayville Buzz: Lobster bake, swimming and more

Tue, 07/31/2018 - 7:15am

Come enjoy the annual Bayville lobster bake starting at 5 p.m. this Saturday. In addition to lobsters, corn, mussels and clams, there will be delicious contributed salads, appetizers, and desserts including my own New Zealand lemonade scones with lemon curd and whipped cream filling. Also that day be prepared for the annual Bayville Village Corporation meeting at 9 a.m.

Again with pen and paper in hand I gather this week’s top stories. Breaking news: Bill Duncan jumped off his dock and had his first swim in what seemed like a 100 years so he says. “I was inspired by Alina,” he added with a big grin, and now there is no stopping him to follow my lead and take a dip each morning.

Gregg Merrill from Vera Beach, Florida now, 92, is again visiting the Lawn cottage for two weeks. Grandson Luke is continuing the Merrill sailing tradition and taking lessons at the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club. Julie is participating in summer reading programs around the state with her book, "Charlie on the MTA, did he return?"

Kudos to Mark and Barbara Spencer, who bought the Davis cottage at the sharp curve of Robert's circle. They have finished extensive renovations including an off-road spot to park, and rented it to Janet and Walter (Moose) Macdonough and their family. Downsizing brings many benefits for Moose where he can sip his morning coffee without having a long list of things to fix. Janet enjoys being at the center of things where a trip to the dock inspires chats with neighbors.

“It’s a village where everyone cares for each other, “ says Margaret Colman as we meet for our morning swim. Chris Colman and daughter Cora (4) and Lily who will be 9 next week enjoy playing with all the children close by. Ginger Robitaille and family took part in a 5K fundraiser with son Andrew and Megan, his fiancee, Elizabeth Connor, Ethan, and the Thomson family with Tem, Trajan, and Naya.

Living here year round I especially appreciate Phil, Alton and Irv for all they do to keep Bayville looking its best. I was worried after this last hard winter with all the plowing that chewed up roads and driveways, and the downed trees across the roads, but by spring everything looked attractive as if nothing had happened.

Welcome back Jeff Allison and JJ from your safari in Africa, no doubt with many tales to share. I look forward to his humor in next week's Buzz.
