Senior Faith Blethen scored the 1,000th point of her career and led the team with 31 points as the Boothbay Region High School girls basketball team defeated the Madison Bulldogs, 60-24, Thursday, Jan. 10 at BRHS.

Needing one point to reach the milestone after scoring 22 for the game, Blethen nailed a three-pointer from the right side of the arc with 43 seconds to play in the third quarter to become the latest member of BRHS’s 1,000-point scoring club. After timeout was called, her father and coach, Brian Blethen, and her teammates, including her sophomore sister, Glory, congratulated Faith. At halfcourt, a plaque marking the milestone was presented to Faith and the Blethen family, including mother Lesley, and the crowd cheered.

The second-seeded Seahawks improved to 9-0 while the 9th-seeded Bulldogs dropped to 4-5.

Boothbay led from the outset, leading 16-7 after the first quarter and 26-13 at halftime. The Seahawks extended their lead to 47-20 after three quarters.

Senior Ashley Abbott joined Blethen in double figures with 11 points (including three 3-pointers). Glory Blethen scored nine points.

Leading scorer for Madison was Emily Edgerly with eight points.
