Boothbay Region rallied from a four-run deficit May 11 to post its second win of the schoolboy baseball season. The Seahawks trailed visiting Mount Abram 7-3 after four innings, but scored the game’s last five runs, including two in the seventh, in claiming victory.

Trailing 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh, Hunter Crocker led off with a “swinging bunt” and beat it out for a single. Crocker advanced on a wild pitch, then advanced to third on Will LaBrecque’s bunt for a single. Crocker tied the score on a double steal. With LaBrecque on second, Owen Barter’s sacrificed him to third. Clean-up hitter Cameron Crocker lifted a shallow fly ball to center which plated LaBrecque for the the winning run.

“It wasn’t that deep but since it was tied I gambled and sent him. If it wasn’t tied, I probably wouldn’t have,” said Boothbay coach Ed Crocker about the game’s winning run.

Boothbay is 2-8 in Mountain Valley Conference play. The Seahawks have been plagued by poor fielding and inconsistent pitching this season. But against Mount Abram (4-5), the Seahawks got off to a flying start with a 3-0 lead. But four errors including two dropped fly balls made Boothbay fielders look like Wile E. Coyote to Mount Abram’s Roadrunner.

“We definitely had errors which hurt us, but no one got triggered. We kept our composure and moved onto the next play,” said catcher Hunter Crocker.

Hunter’s coach and father agreed. His team has struggled with poor play throughout the season which led to a team meeting between his players and coaching staff. “Our execution was much better today. We made a few errors which hurt us, but it was more important what happened after the errors. We had a heart-to-heart with the players and told them things needed to change, to start trusting each other, and become more forgiving,” said Coach Crocker.

Cameron Crocker not only delivered the game winning run batted in, he also threw 108 pitches in the complete game victory.

On Wednesday, Boothbay hosts Winthrop (4-4). The Ramblers are third in the Class C South Heal point standings.
