Boothbay Region Historical Society Open House Dec. 2

Mon, 11/20/2017 - 7:15am

Everyone bring your friends, family and kids to the Boothbay Region Historical Society open house for some holiday cheer and the delight of discovery that visiting the museum always inspires. All are welcome to attend this annual event at 72 Oak Street during the Harbor Lights Festival on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The museum will be decorated with vintage ornaments, traditional greens, historical photos and holiday cards. Homemade finger foods, a hot mulled beverage, and other delicious treats will be served by society trustees who enjoy meeting visitors and showing them around the museum. Local historian Barbara Rumsey, who is at the museum every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will be available as usual to chat and answer research questions.

This year marks the society’s 50th anniversary. To highlight this milestone they have created a special Focus on 50 exhibit featuring fifty items from the museum’s collection of artifacts, documents, and photos. Each artifact is numbered in a brochure that guides you on a tour of the exhibit rooms. You will find yourself going upstairs and down. Many visitors have been happily surprised to learn that the upstairs exhibit rooms are full of artifacts that depict daily life at home, school and town throughout the region’s history.

Before you leave, be sure to shop the holiday sale table arranged with aprons embroidered with the society’s logo, books and maps on local history, as well as various stocking stuffers. Create your own gift bag with a purchase of $20 or more.

For more information about this special holiday event, please contact the society at (207) 633-0820, email brhs@gwi.net, or go to http://boothbayhistorical.org/.
