BRES Reading Lab celebrates success

Mon, 06/03/2019 - 11:00am

The Boothbay Region Elementary School Title I Reading Lab held their “Summer Send-Off and Celebration” on May 21 for students and their families.

While Hawaiian music played in the background, families celebrated all of the hard work and learning students had done this year. They enjoyed pizza and pineapple, made their own board games to play literacy games at home, picked out books for summer reading, and learned fun physical games to make their brains and bodies stronger and help learn reading skills. Students did jump-rope spelling (hopping and saying each letter in the word), ball-toss sounds (saying each sound in a word as they toss a ball), and sidewalk chalk spelling. Each student also received a Summer Workbook full of activities to help maintain skills over the summer.

The BRES Reading Lab is supported by federal grant monies under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), Title I Part A, which also provided funding for materials for the family night.

The pizza was very generously donated by Cook’s Landing Pizzeria of Edgecomb and was enjoyed by all!
