The chicken or the dog?

Mon, 09/10/2018 - 4:45pm

    Dear Editor:

I would like to express my gratitude to the Barters Island community. On Friday, due to compromised fence from a fallen tree, my Sheltie was able to get out.

Right away, the signs went up, and flyers were posted. Phone calls were made to Boothbay Veterinary Hospital and Betsy Pratt of animal control.

The outpouring of concern, encouragement, and watchful eyes, helped me stay focused. Many people called with wonderful ideas.

At 8:45 that night, Debbie Bronk, driving home on East Side Road, saw my dog run across the road in front of her. She called me and did her best to keep the pup in sight, until I arrived. By using another one of my dogs and a big chunk of rotisserie chicken as lures, she came to me.

What tempted her more — her dog friend or the irresistible chicken? We will never know!

    Thank you, everyone!
