A clarification about wax

Mon, 08/13/2018 - 6:15pm

Dear Editor:

With over 10 years experience in the candle industry and lots of research, I wanted to clarify some info (regarding soy and cocoa wax) in an article that was published Aug. 2, "Restoring health the natural way.”

The article stated “Candles are made with cocoa wax, whose sourcing can be guaranteed GMO-free, as opposed to soy candles, which may contain GMO soy products.”

Well now, not all waxes are created equal. A little bit of info about our soy wax. We use 100 percent soy (not a blended soy wax). Our soy wax comes from soybeans grown on American farms. This was important to us! Unlike cocoa wax where the coconuts are grown and processed outside the United States.

Both soy and cocoa go through a process called hydrogenation. This is the process of converting oil to wax. Since it’s hydrogenated, it cannot be “organic.” Many new candle makers lack the industry experience and mislead there consumer by claiming they are using organic cocoa wax.

Our 100 percent soy wax is guaranteed to be grown and processed in the United States contains no GMO.
