Clifford Playground needs you

Whether you are a local, a summer resident or a visitor to the Boothbay peninsula, it’s likely you have spent some leisure time at Clifford Playground. This little park in the center of Boothbay offers a traditional play area with swings and other equipment, a covered gazebo for gatherings, and ample fields for baseball, soccer, lacrosse, Frisbee and other organized or unorganized outdoor fun.

In recent years, selectmen have considered expanding and upgrading the playground with more facilities for sports, walking trails, and perhaps even a dog park. Most recently, their attention has been directed to the rundown state of the playground equipment. While these larger plans continue to be discussed, Boothbay’s own Pat Farrin and Tom Nickerson are pushing to get some positive action to improve Clifford Playground started straightaway. They hope some skilled volunteers with equipment might be interested in helping them.

Farrin's and Nickerson’s immediate focus is on the piles of debris that have been dumped along the back edge of the playground, starting about 15 years ago, by various entities.

Farrin has offered to join with Boothbay Region Water District to establish a line between the area’s wetlands and fill piles so the work area is clearly defined. From there, they hope to engage some local contractors and other people with equipment to help remove excess material and grade the area into usable field.

If you are interested in helping with this community project, please contact Nickerson at 633-6278 or Farrin at 633-3110.
