The Midcoast Green Collaborative and the Midcoast Outreach and Peace Center invite you to a panel discussion by area legislators and local experts on developing a much needed Comprehensive Energy Plan for Maine, on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2-4 p.m. in Skidompha Public Library’s Porter Room.

The State of Maine and the world at large faces a triple challenge: the existential threat of a growing climate crisis, a seriously challenged economy, and energy insecurity. Any solution to these must be comprehensive and cost less to implement than failing to act would cost.

To facilitate a focused and productive discussion, a handout will be provided to all present, summarizing a comprehensive approach to energy, climate, and society, inspired in part by Wharton School professor Jeremy Rifkin’s long-term economic sustainability plan for the European Parliament, which endorsed it in 2007. The handout also explains the basic science helpful in navigating the nexus between energy and climate.

This is the second program in a series of linked events, free to the public, focusing on climate and the economy: “Where We Are and What We Can Do.”

The library is at 184 Main Street, downtown Damariscotta.
