Cross Point Road paving to start in July

Edgecomb Road Commissioner Scott Griffin told selectmen Monday evening, paving of a half-mile section of Cross Point Road will begin at the end of July and be done before the new school year. Voters at the May 18 town meeting approved the work, budgeted at $94,000.

Griffin told selectmen he will address the drainage issues on the road before paving the section between Chase’s and The Deck House School. He expects the work to take three to four weeks.

Griffin also said he plans to increase the elevation slightly at the crown of the road to help with drainage.

In response to a question from Selectman Mike Smith about escalating costs for road construction, Griffin said he does not expect that to be a problem. Griffin said he has spoken with a few Cross Point Road residents and will “have lots of communications with residents there as we get closer to let them know what’s going on.”

Also Monday, Fire Chief Roy Potter told selectmen the recently purchased Engine #3 fire truck will be in service on Wednesday, July 3. The old rescue vehicle was sold last week for $3,500.

Potter also reminded selectmen of the pancake breakfast at the fire department on Saturday, June 29 from 7 to 11.

Smith spoke about planning for the town’s future and said he would like to identify specific areas for discussion. Jack Brennan, who chaired the town’s 2019 budget committee, said Lincoln County Historical Association is looking at plans for the county’s 25oth anniversary celebration.

Edgecomb is still seeking a recording secretary for the selectmen.

Selectmen meet next at 6 p.m. Monday, July 1 at the town office.
