Edgecomb announces second annual Charlie Brown Christmas tree contest

Sat, 10/27/2018 - 8:00am

To welcome the holidays and join in the festivities across the area, Edgecomb residents are again invited to come out and decorate an array of Charlie Brown Christmas trees. The creatively decorated trees will be displayed from Friday, Dec. 7 through Monday, Dec. 31 at the Town Hall on Route 27. To encourage creative thinking and inspire artistic themes, the trees will be judged and prizes awarded for categories, including Most Interesting Theme, Funniest Tree, Most Eco-Friendly Tree, Most Original Tree, and Best in Show.

Trees will be available to decorate at the Edgecomb Town Hall on Thursday, Dec. 6 and Friday, Dec. 7, with the tree lighting and judging taking place at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 7. Food, hot drinks, a carol sing-along, and Christmas stories will accompany the tree lighting and judging. Prizes will be awarded at 6 p.m.

Contest application forms can be downloaded from Edgecomb’s website (www.edgecomb.org). You can also pick up a form at the Edgecomb Post Office, Edgecomb Town Hall, and at the Cod Cove Inn. Entries will be limited to 20 trees. The contest is open to Edgecomb schools, churches, businesses, families, and other interested groups. Each entrant will be provided with a less-than-perfect “scraggily” tree, a tree stand, and several strands of LED lights and power to light them. Each group will bring their own decorations for their tree. The cost to enter a tree is $15; the entry fee will be waived for trees being decorated by Edgecomb Eddy School classes.

“The idea of a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree Contest is perfect for our town,” says Ted Hugger, committee member. “It engages the Edgecomb community in a fun and spirited holiday activity. The results make the Town Hall sparkle and then serve as a welcoming sight to residents and visitors alike over the holiday season.”
