Edgecomb Fire Department report for August

The following report was compiled by Edgecomb Emergency Management Director Bill Witzell:

The Edgecomb Fire Department responded to 22 calls between Aug. 1 and 13. On Aug. 1, the department responded to two calls. First responders attended to a Cross Point Road resident who fell and lacerated their head. The patient was checked and treated at the scene. Firefighters later responded to an alarm and extinguished a trash can fire at a Deck House Road residence.

On Aug. 2, the department responded to four calls. First responders attended to a car accident at the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and and state Route 27. The two-vehicle accident resulted in property damage, but no bodily injuries. First responders provided traffic control. On Boothbay Road, first responders provided traffic control and cleared stone from the roadway resulting from a truck losing its load. First responders provided traffic control following a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and Eddy Road. The accident resulted in property damage, but no bodily damage was reported. The department later provided mutual assistance to Boothbay firefighters regarding a structure fire.

On Aug. 5, first responders  provided traffic control following a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and Eddy Road. The accident resulted in property damage and no bodily injuries were reported.

On Aug. 6, first responders assisted in two motor vehicle accidents. Three vehicles were involved in an accident at the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and Route 27. The accident resulted in injuries to two people and property damage. First responders provided traffic control. The second accident occurred between two vehicles at the intersection of Route 27 and Eddy Road. The accident resulted in property damage, but no bodily injuries were reported.

On Aug. 7, the department responded to a deer colliding with a car on River Road, on Boothbay’s side of the line. Responders provided coverage until a deputy sheriff arrived.

On Aug. 10, the department responded to another deer and car collision. Responders provided assistance for the incident on Route 27 near Middle Road. Responders stayed until a deputy sheriff arrived.

On Aug. 13, firefighters provided mutual aid to Westport for a brush fire.

On Aug. 14, first responders treated a McKay Road resident who fell off a ladder and broke an ankle. Responders treated the patient who was later transported by ambulance to a hospital.

On Aug. 17, the department assisted in removing a tree limb at the intersection of Mason Road and Taylor Lane.

On Aug. 18, the department responded to a medical event where a patient was reportedly “confused and not responding.” First responders cared for the patient on Route 27 until an ambulance arrived. Responders assisted in lifting the patient into the ambulance.

On Aug. 19, first responders assisted an elderly Cross Road patient returning to their home following a hospital stay.

On Aug. 20, first responders provided medical assistance to a Cross Point Road resident who had fallen. Responders evaluated the patient and helped them into bed.
