Falcons soar over Seahawks, 19-9

It didn’t take Boothbay long to find out how good Freeport (4-1) was in Class C schoolgirl lacrosse. It took the Falcons only 16 seconds to score May 6 en route to a 19-9 victory over host Boothbay. Despite the early score, Boothbay responded a few minutes later on the first of four Chloe Arsenault goals, but Freeport proved too fast, too talented and too deep for the Lady Seahawks.

“They had too much for us,” Arsenault said. “They have great team speed and play well together. They also have a great youth program so they know how to play together.”

Prior to Freeport, Boothbay’s toughest opponent has been the cold, rainy weather which has limited the team to playing only three games. As the season progresses, the Lady Seahawks are slowly improving their teamwork and communication. “We are improving especially in our plays. A couple worked in the second half, and we scored on them. So we are playing better as a team,” Arsenault said.

Other Seahawk scorers were Reagan Cola with three. Journey Bennett scored once. Cortney Meader had one goal and one assist. Emily Echols had one assist. On defense, Boothbay’s Alexis Davison played a strong game in goal making 14 saves.

Boothbay travels to Sanford on May 11 to play the Class A Spartans (1-2).
