Family history events at Skidompha Library

The genealogy group at Skidompha Public Library in Damariscotta will soon host two events of interest to family history researchers. The first event, “Why Genealogy Software?” will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 12:30-2 p.m. in the library’s first floor Porter Meeting Hall. This presentation by staff genealogist, Kathleen Maclachlan, is an introduction to the benefits of using software for genealogy record-keeping. There will also be an opportunity to see various genealogical software programs demonstrated.

The second event is a light-hearted afternoon time of sharing called “HATS & More!  What did your Ancestors Wear on their Heads?” to be held on Tuesday, Jan. 22, noon-1:30 p.m., on the second-floor Genealogy Section. Plain or fancy, furry or feathery, practical or whimsical--hats have been popular for generations and hat styles on men, women, and children can help researchers date photos. And knowing the era of a photo might help to identify who was wearing that topper! Participants are encouraged to bring photos of hat-wearing people and to bring actual examples of hats for the group to enjoy.
