Boothbay Region Health Center is hosting a special free screening of “Escape Fire: How we can fix the broken health care system” Saturday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. The film is 1 hour and 39 minutes, and a Q&A  session will follow.

The 2012 documentary looks at a U.S. healthcare system designed to profit on disease not health, reward quantity over quality, and promote high-tech over high-touch. It interweaves dramatic personal stories with the efforts of leaders battling to transform healthcare at the highest levels of medicine, industry, government, and even the U.S. military.

The Boothbay Region Health Center is an example of one organization trying to make changes through innovation at the local level. Come see the movie and talk about how together we can create better and less expensive health care, and better health for ourselves.

New York Magazine says the film is "... a thinking, touching look at a tough subject," and Village Voice says it is  “a must see.”

The film is free, but donations will be gratefully accepted. The Health Center is in the midst of a campaign to raise $100,000 by Dec. 15. Whatever money is raised by that date will be matched 50-50 by an anonymous donor, up to $100K. If $20K is raised, the Health Center will get a $20K match for a total of $40K. But if the $100K goal is met, that would be matched by $100K for a total of $200K.
