If you come to the Health Center between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11; or between 2 and 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, the flu clinic cash only price will be $26.50. The normal price is $53.00. This offer is valid for anyone without health insurance coverage who comes during the special flu clinic hours. The Boothbay Region Health Center is located at 185 Townsend Ave., the "Meadow Mall."

Have you updated/completed your Advance Directive?

How do you want to be treated medically at the end of your life? What does adequate quality of life mean to you? Are you willing to be wheelchair bound? Are you OK with carrying oxygen around with you? Do you want to be fed intravenously? Resuscitated? These are tough questions, and everyone feels differently about them.

The Community Center's Empowered Patients' Series kicks off on Wed., Oct. 10 at noon, with a special “lunch and learn” program provided by Connie Jones of MaineHealth Care at Home on how to fill in/revise your Advance Directive. Bring your own lunch and Connie will walk us all through the official forms we need to detail our wants and needs for our care at the end of our lives. This is a very easy and supportive way to complete a necessary task that most of us put off too long. So, if you don't have an Advance Directive in place for yourself, your partner, or your parents, or it needs updating to comply with Maine law, this is the time! There will be two sessions with time for reflection and discussion with your family members in between. The first lunch & learn session from noon to 1:30 p.m., on Wed., Oct. 10, will walk us through how to fill out our forms and encourage Q&A. The second session, from noon to 1:30 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 24, will provide one-on-one help by experienced volunteers and healthcare professionals to help you complete and sign your form.

The Empowered Patients' series of health education discussion groups is co-sponsored by the Boothbay Region Health Center and the Community Center.
