Frustrated with snowplowers

    Dear Editor:

I grew up in Maine in the 50s and 60s when we had real serious nor’easters.  Snow was measured in feet not inches. Most people did not own a snowblower and driveways and sidewalks were cleared with snow shovels.

Shoveling is a very tedious task, especially clearing the entrance to your driveway where the snowplow pushes the road snow into your driveway. Back then the snowplow drivers were very courteous and raised their side plow when approaching your driveway you had just cleared.

Not the case here in East Boothbay. I had just finished clearing the driveway and a snowplow comes down the road going way to fast with his side blade down. The snow flew 20 feet back into my driveway I just cleared. Very, very frustrating!

I appreciate some towns have difficulty finding people to drive the snowplows. I just wish they could fine some drivers that are a little bit more courteous and drive the snowplows at a safe speed. There is very little room for error, especially since our street, as I’m-sure so many others, are frequented by walkers and children out playing.
