Groundbreaking news for Harbor Theater

“It’s been a long time coming,” Harbor Theater board member Bob Devine said. That was moments before the theater’s roadside signage was taken down on June 25 and the groundbreaking for the new, old signage began.

The sign’s absence is temporary. A new frame has been constructed to house the sign, similar to the sign at the north end of the mall. Jim Haney was the structural engineer focused on wind stress against the sign. Jeff Brown designed the frame. Mike Tomko is the general contractor for the project and Jody Lewis Construction performed the groundwork.

The illumination from dome-shaped sconces provides a spotlight on what’s playing on the movie house’s silver screen, for now. Devine said the board has approached the town of Boothbay Harbor to rescind its ban on electronic signs. If it does, a brand new electronic sign will replace the current sign.

Devine was joined for a Kodak moment by fellow board members Tom Tavenner, Robin Jordan and Tom Patrick, theater manager Jason Sheckley, employee Lisa Perry, and Tomko.
