Mon, 10/15/2018 - 7:15am

Paintings by local artist, Hilary Bartlett, are on display at the First National Bank, 77 Oak St., Boothbay Harbor. Work can be viewed in the lobby throughout October and November during banking hours. This show is sponsored by Boothbay Region Art Foundation.

Bartlett’s paintings cover a broad range of subjects. She uses water-based media, as she likes the fluid spontaneity. Her palette varies from soft swirls of watercolor to bold swaths of highly textured acrylic inks, produced by printing resistant materials (leaves, string, Saranwrap) on the paper. While some of her work is representational, she also likes to paint intuitively, allowing initial pours to suggest a composition.

Hilary has lived here for over 40 years yet she still has a strong Liverpool accent. She came here one summer to work on red-tide organisms and never left. Her work been exhibited in numerous galleries and art centers. Several of her ink paintings have won awards and one piece was in a show at Portland Museum of Art.

Her work can be viewed in summer at Boothbay Region Art Foundation or by appointment year round at her West Harbor Studio 207-449-6847. Hilary also take commissions for portraits of people’s homes.
