It’s time for change

Dear Editor:

As residents of Factory Cove Road, my husband Dennis and I were pleased to accept an invitation to attend the July 10 East Side development informational lunch at Coastal Prime. We both feel strongly that: (1) our zoning ordinances are hopelessly out of date; (2) the various boards, committees, town planners, and citizens have discussed the needed changes over and over again for months; (3) the proposed changes are well thought out and absolutely vital for the viability and health of our community; and (4) the changes should be made as soon as possible, before our waterfront deteriorates even further.

We find it significant, in fact horrifying, that a few years ago, Frommer’s, one of the most respected travel guides in the world, described our town thus: "Boothbay Harbor — a beautiful harbor surrounded by tacky tourist traps."  That sort of thing needs to end; the sooner the better.
