Jane Bingham Fawcett, 84, of Falmouth, Maine died July 15, 2018 at Sedgewood Commons.

Born on Aug. 2, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts to James Cunningham Bingham and Ruth (Hayes) Bingham, she grew up in West Medford, Massachusetts. and then Concord, New Hampshire.

After graduating from Colby Sawyer College in 1953, she married R. Richard Fawcett Jr. on June 8, 1957. They raised two daughters in Canton, Ohio, spending summer vacations on Squirrel Island, in the Boothbay Harbor region of Maine.

Jane loved serving as a professional volunteer. She was president of the Junior League of Canton, Ohio Inc., the Children’s Aid Society, the Aultman Hospital Women’s Board and was the first woman appointed to the Canton City Planning Commission. She was a founding member and first president of the Canton Art Institute Museum Guild and the Center for Women in Transition where she was responsible for initiating The Grief Center that is now part of the Compassionate Care Center affiliated with Aultman Hospital in Canton. Jane was chairman of the Canton City School Operating Levy Campaign in 1977. She also devoted 22 years to Pathway, an agency matching foster homes with neglected, abandoned and abused children where she served as president of the board and later as development director. But perhaps her proudest accomplishment was as founding member and president of the Canton Ballet Company, which now boasts a national reputation as a pre-professional training company.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lisa Fawcett of Tenafly, New Jersey and Julie Fawcett of Portland, Maine, and granddaughter, Zoe Bonerbo.

Jane was predeceased by her mother, Ruth (Hayes) Bingham of Auburn, Maine (1958), father, James Cunningham Bingham (1979) of Granite Lake, New Hampshire, brother, James “Jackie” C. Bingham, Jr. (1951), and her ex-husband, R. Richard Fawcett Jr. (2003).
