Tue, 10/31/2017 - 2:30pm

Joseph Francis Cook Sr., 69, of East Boothbay, died at his home in the early morning hours of Oct. 28, 2017 with his beloved family by his side.

Joe was born on July 2, 1948 in Fall River, Massachusetts and grew up in Island Park, Rhode Island, before moving to Westport, Massachuseets, and later to Tiverton, Rhode Island.

Joe spent over 20 years working in the offshore commercial fishing industry, and most recently worked as a machinist for many years in multiple shipyards from Maine to Florida, retiring in 2010. He and the love of his life, Patricia Gallant Cook, moved to East Boothbay in 1996.

Always up for a rock and roll concert, Joe was a Harley Davidson enthusiast, an avid NASCAR fan, and could play a mean air guitar. Joe enjoyed tinkering on his workbench at home, and could fix anything. He enjoyed camping, and spending after hours at Horseneck Beach, especially at the campfire where he found much solace. He loved reading, especially non-fiction books, and was a kind, gentle and caring man.

A communicant of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Boothbay Harbor, he will always be remembered for his kind words and pleasant demeanor. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Joe was a devoted husband who adored his wife Patt, and was always so proud of her. Family was his top priority, and he always wanted what was best for his children. A loving father and grandfather, he truly enjoyed spending time with his family, especially when they were all gathered together in his home

He loved spending time with his grandson, Carson, whether playing with Thomas the Tank Engine on the tracks, or a game on the computer. Known to his grandchildren by many names; Poppa Joe to those in New York, Voo by those in Massachusetts, and as Boo Joe to Carson in Maine, he will be missed by all.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by three siblings, Robert Cook, Walter Cook and Marshall Cook.

He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Gallant Cook; five children, Joseph F. Cook Jr., Joshua J. Cook, Alison M. Cook, Robin M. Silva, and Heather L. Gonsalves; nine grandchildren, Carson Raymond Cook, Melissa Cook Hobby, Joseph F. Cook III, Felicia N. Cook, Chelsea L. Brodeur, Tamara Silvia, David Silvia IV, Dominique Gonsalves, and Davin Gonsalves; five great-grandchildren, Joseph F. Cook IV, Paul J. Nardella, Kylie Cook, Maykia Brown, and Silas Gomes; and two sisters, Brenda Cook and Kathy Faulkner.

A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4 at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Boothbay Harbor. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543.
