Journey to serenity stalled

Wed, 01/16/2019 - 8:45am

Two weeks into the new year and my desk is still a mess. At the beginning of the year, I vowed to start scouring my work surroundings and begin tossing and organizing. Started … but added more in the past two weeks. Between work, covering basketball games and enjoying my days away from the office, I haven’t found time to follow through with my vow.

Monday was National Clean Off Your Desk Day – fat chance! That’s one of the busiest days of the week for me. The National Day Calendar website says “having your work space uncluttered, organized, refreshed and clean will help you work more efficiently and give you a sense of serenity.” I agree but it will take more than one day to get the serenity I seek!

What to throw away and what to keep? That is the question that slows this process down. I am going to go by the old adage, “If you haven’t touched it in a year, get rid of it,” whenever I get around to restarting my quest.

There’s always that time of year they call “spring cleaning.”

No. I must not procrastinate.

If you see the light on in the office some night, it might be me. Just don’t stop to say hello and interrupt my journey to serenity.
