LCCT, the resident theater company of Damariscotta’s Lincoln Theater, will hold auditions for two upcoming musicals on Sunday, Dec. 16 from 4-6 p.m. and Monday, Dec. 17 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Skidompha Public Library’s Porter Hall. People auditioning are asked to use the Elm Street entrance to the library (located at 184 Main Street).

“Sister Act, the Musical” – Performances the weekend of April 5, 2019 and directed by John Mulcahy - is based on the hit 1992 film about Delores Van Cartier, an ambitious lounge singer in the 1970’s who, having accidentally witnessed a murder, is hidden by the police in a local convent until she can safely testify. Forced to assume the guise of a nun, the streetwise Delores turns the orderly and serene lives of the nuns and their Mother Superior upside down.

This uplifting musical about the power of music and friendship was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Featuring original music by Tony- and eight-time Oscar winner, Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors), the score is jammed with both disco-inspired tunes and more traditional musical comedy material.  Who can resist the beat of tunes like those of the great disco queens and the Bee Gees?

The ensemble for this semi-staged production will rehearse Sunday afternoons starting mid-January. Members of the ensemble are not required to memorize the music. Principals rehearse independent of the chorus until the show is put together as performances near. The production is accompanied by a full orchestra. Character descriptions for Sister Act, the Musical can be found by visiting lcct.org (click on the bottom right “more info” button).

Casting will also take place for the musical revue “A Grand Night for Singing” featuring  the music of Rodgers and Hammerstein, with direction and choreography by Emile Mirabile and music direction by John Mulcahy. Performances for this fully-staged production are scheduled for the weekends of Aug. 1 and Aug. 8 with rehearsals beginning in mid-June.  Although originally written for a cast of five, LCCT, as they did a few summers back with the Kander and Ebb revue “And the World Goes ‘Round,” will be expanding the show to feature multiple performers and a chorus. The show provides a fresh take on the songs of the team that shaped the modern musical comedy.

Actors auditioning for “A Grand Night for Singing” are asked to bring sheet music to the auditions. An accompanist will be provided. Questions about either of these shows can be emailed to lcctseason@gmail.com
