Lincoln Home’s Lobster and More event a smashing success

The Lincoln Home shouts out a huge thank you to over 150 people in our community who came to join in the fun at the Lobster & More event Aug. 18. All ages danced to the lively bluegrass music of the Sandy River Ramblers, dined on appetizers, delicious lobsters, oysters, chicken, salads and blueberry deserts on the banks of the Damariscotta River. Over 220 votes, three votes per person, were cast for the People’s Choice Awards in the Art Tent after folks perused art displayed by the 20 artists exhibiting. With thanks to  Salt Bay Framers, three cash awards were awarded to Hannah Ineson, Kim Skillin Traina and Will Kefauver.

Months of planning, and countless volunteer hours by the staff, the board of directors and members of the community, made the evening possible. The Lincoln Home is grateful to the many local businesses and individuals who generously sponsored the event with financial support, in-kind donations and to the artists, who donated a portion of their sales. Director of Nursing Millie Jones-Farnham and husband Jon donated 300 lobsters and tons of seaweed.

Steve Raymond, director of Admissions and Community Outreach, had this to share: “One day three years ago in a board meeting, Bruce Bachelder casually said, ‘What would you think about doing a lobster bake? I can do the cooking.’ And it instantly seemed like great idea. And now, three years later, we have held three fun-filled events that have benefited our Resident Financial Assistance Fund. It’s great when a simple idea blossoms into more good things than we can count, and that’s exactly what has happened with the lobster bake. Our board members and staff give generously of their time and labor in support of the Lincoln Home, and especially with all the work involved in the lobster bake. Head chef Julie Adams and her excellent staff, including Brittany Meservier and Shana York, working together as a team, give Lincoln Home its renowned reputation for their dining services and quality of food not only at the lobster bake, but all year round.”

The money raised helps support the Financial Assistance Fund at The Lincoln Home for residents who have outlived their financial resources.
