Linocut flora and fauna show

Story Location:
104 Front Street
Bath, ME 04530
United States

Sherrie York’s linocut prints of birds, wildlife, and the natural world create a light and flowing world of color using the demanding and technical process of multi-layered printmaking. Her linocut prints dance between her artistic roots as a watercolorist and a naturalist’s eye for wildlife and nature, along with a beautiful sense of abstract pattern.

Her work will be featured in a solo show at the Green Lion Gallery, 104 Front St. in Bath from April 19 through May 13.  There will be an opening reception at the Gallery from 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 19.

York moved to Midcoast Maine from Colorado in 2017.  Before that, however, she spent more than a decade working every summer at the Hog Island Audubon Camp in Bremen, where she teaches in a variety of programs and coordinates the artist residency.  Her art career has always derived inspiration from her love of wildlife and natural history.  An important impetus in her visual creativity came from an invitation to the highly competitive international Birds in Art Exhibition at the Woodson Art Museum in Wisconsin, in the early 1990s – and she’s never looked back.

Sherrie York has a solo show coming up at the Museum of American Bird Art in Massachusetts, and her work has been shown at the Stable Gallery in Damariscotta, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Boothbay, the Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center in Rockland, and in many other galleries and museums across the Unites States and in Europe.
